“If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?” Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: “Go and gather together all the Jews of Susa and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will do the same. And then, though it is against the law, I will go in to see the king. If I must die, I must die.” So Mordecai went away and did everything as Esther had ordered him. Esther 4:14-17
Mordecai submitted to the Lord through his response to Esther. They were on a mission from God. Nothing about it was self-serving. It was a ‘do or die’ effort. Few if any times have we been on such a mission. Nonetheless, when God clearly directs us or even gives us a passion for a mission to accomplish we must take it seriously. The little things are of equal importance because obedience is required in our devotion and service as followers of Christ. Just as the widow’s offering was her call to obedience, our small service is useful in God’s plan. We should never underestimate the power of God.
