“Today is the first day of the rest of my life.” I heard this multiple times more than fifty years ago. How little I knew about life and my future at the time. There is a more recent saying that hovers over my subconscious mind often. It is a saying my cousin preaches from the pulpit. After a seventeen-year journey with a critical heart problem (that should have taken his life on the day of discovery); he says with full confidence, “live life like you are dying!” Both sayings sound one and the same to me. Whether we live to be eight months old or eighty years old, God has a purpose for our life. When our purpose is exhausted, the lights go out. An appropriate question to ponder is, “Am I living a life of purpose today?”
Yes, that is a question I often ask myself.
