“Watch out! Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven.” Matthew 6:1 NLT
A ‘do-gooder’ only brings attention to himself. The general public make their own observations. Nothing is accomplished in the moment or in the long term! However, God has prepared rewards for His children. Receiving credit for our good deeds ends when we receive earthly recognition. However our most valuable and greatest rewards come when we wait for God to issue them. This scripture actually says that when we settle for earthly rewards, we lose the ones God has intended for us later. If only we could keep that in mind and stop seeking the ones here, we would be much richer spiritually! That is a mysterious lesson to learn.
